Terms of Service
Last updated: May 26, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Heirloom Recipe Box ("Heirloom," "we," "us"). By downloading, accessing, or using Heirloom, you agree to these Terms.
1) The Service
Heirloom is a recipe box app that helps you save, organize, import, cook from, and share recipes privately. Some features are free; others require a paid subscription, lifetime purchase, add-on, or promotional entitlement, as shown in-app.
We may update, improve, add, remove, or change features over time. If a feature requires payment, the price, renewal period, and included benefits will be shown before purchase through the applicable app store or in-app purchase flow.
2) Accounts
You may need to create an account to use certain features. You are responsible for:
- keeping your login credentials secure
- maintaining accurate account information
- all activity that occurs under your account
Anonymous Sessions
You may use Heirloom without creating an account. In this case, an anonymous session is created automatically. Anonymous sessions provide access to core features such as creating and viewing recipes and URL import, but they do not support social features, recipe or cookbook sharing, or cloud sync. Anonymous sessions may be automatically terminated after 35 days of inactivity.
3) Your Content & Permissions
You retain ownership of the recipes, text, photos, images, notes, and other content you upload, import, save, or create in Heirloom ("User Content").
By using Heirloom, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, process, display, and transmit your User Content only as needed to:
- operate and provide the service, such as showing your recipes to you, syncing them, importing them, processing them when you request an AI feature, and sharing them when you choose
- troubleshoot issues, prevent abuse, secure the service, and improve product quality
- comply with legal obligations and enforce these Terms
We do not claim ownership of your User Content. Optional product-improvement uses that go beyond providing the service — such as using recipe photos to improve AI image-generation models — are governed by the Privacy Policy and your in-app privacy choices.
If you submit ratings, comments, suggestions, support messages, or other feedback, you grant Heirloom a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use that feedback to improve, support, and promote the service. We will handle personal information in feedback as described in the Privacy Policy.
4) Sharing & Publishing Rules (Important)
Heirloom is private by default. You control what you share.
A) Peer-to-peer sharing
You may share recipes or cookbooks directly with specific people you choose in Heirloom.
B) No public feed
Heirloom does not currently offer a public recipe feed or open community browsing. Recipes you share stay within private flows, such as direct shares to people you choose, unless we introduce a different feature and you opt in with clear consent in-app.
You are responsible for making sure you have the rights needed to upload, import, save, or share content through Heirloom.
5) Prohibited Content and Conduct
You agree not to:
- upload or share content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, exploitative, or abusive
- upload or share content that exploits or harms minors
- impersonate others or misrepresent authorship, ownership, or permission to share recipes or other content
- upload malware, attempt to access accounts without permission, interfere with the service, scrape the service, or bypass security controls
- use the service to infringe intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights
- misuse promotions, invites, subscriptions, grants, or entitlement systems
We may suspend or terminate accounts for violations.
6) AI Features & Processing
Some features use AI or automated processing to help you extract, parse, translate, search, or generate recipes. When you use these features, content you provide may be processed by third-party providers as described in the Privacy Policy.
AI and automated outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate, or unsafe. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying generated content before relying on it, including ingredients, allergens, substitutions, food-safety instructions, cook times, temperatures, and dietary information.
7) Subscriptions and Purchases
Heirloom may offer auto-renewing subscriptions, lifetime purchases, optional add-ons, promotional grants, and a free tier. What is included in each tier is presented in-app and may change from time to time.
A) Apple App Store and Google Play purchases
Paid purchases and subscriptions are processed by the platform store where you make the purchase, such as Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment is charged to your applicable store account at confirmation of purchase.
Auto-renewing subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled through the applicable store before the renewal deadline stated by that store. You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancellation stops future renewal, but it may not refund the current billing period unless the store's refund rules or applicable law require otherwise.
Refund requests for store purchases are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. Heirloom can help with support questions, but we do not control Apple's or Google's refund decisions.
B) Trials and introductory offers
If Heirloom offers a trial or introductory offer through an app store, the terms, duration, renewal price, and renewal timing will be shown before purchase. Unless the store or in-app purchase flow says otherwise, a trial or introductory subscription may renew into a paid subscription unless canceled through the applicable store before the renewal deadline.
C) Lifetime purchases
If Heirloom offers a lifetime purchase, "lifetime" means access to the paid Heirloom Premium features associated with that purchase for as long as we operate and support the Heirloom service, subject to these Terms. Lifetime access is not transferable and does not include separate paid products, services, or add-ons unless stated in-app at the time of purchase.
D) Promotional access
Promotional grants, including First Table grants, are not purchases. They do not require payment, do not create an auto-renewing subscription, and do not require an App Store or Google Play code. Promotional grants may have limited duration, eligibility requirements, and abuse-prevention limits.
8) First Table Program
Heirloom may offer an invite-only cohort program called First Table. Eligible users receive a free promotional grant of Premium subscription time. Rewards are delivered server-side through our subscription provider as promotional entitlements; they are not delivered through App Store or Google Play offer codes.
Specific First Table terms, including duration, eligibility, invite availability, redemption steps, and delivery mechanism, may change at Heirloom's discretion. First Table grants have no cash value, are not transferable, may not be resold, and may not stack with an active paid subscription unless Heirloom chooses to handle the situation manually.
First Table feedback is voluntary. You do not need to submit feedback to receive or keep a grant. If you submit feedback, you grant Heirloom a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use your comments to improve, support, and promote the service, subject to the Privacy Policy.
When a First Table grant ends, Premium-only features may return to the paywall. Recipes and content you created or saved remain in your account subject to the service's free-tier limits and these Terms. If you want Premium after the grant ends, you may subscribe through the App Store or Google Play.
Heirloom reserves the right to modify, pause, revoke for abuse, or discontinue the First Table program at any time.
9) Termination
You can stop using Heirloom at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, create risk for other users, misuse the service, abuse promotions or entitlements, or use Heirloom in a way that could harm the service.
Anonymous sessions are automatically terminated after 35 days of inactivity. Associated anonymous server data is permanently deleted if the anonymous account remains inactive and contains no user data.
10) Disclaimers
Heirloom is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or perfectly secure operation.
Recipe content, imported content, and AI outputs may contain mistakes. You are responsible for verifying ingredients, instructions, substitutions, allergens, cook times, temperatures, and food-safety guidance before preparing or serving food.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
11) Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Heirloom and its affiliates, owners, employees, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill, or business opportunity.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Heirloom's total liability for any claim relating to the service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid Heirloom for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) $100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of the above limits may not apply to you.
12) Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, excluding conflict-of-law rules, except to the extent the laws of your place of residence provide mandatory consumer protections that cannot be waived.
13) Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and may provide additional notice in-app, by email, or on our website. Your continued use of Heirloom after changes become effective means you accept the updated Terms.
